He graduated from Hubbertville High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy through the end of WWII. He went on to attend the University of Alabama, where he majored in physical education and fell in love with all things Alabama sports. He also met his wife Gwendolyn Virginia Dyar Perry, and they were married after graduation in 1949.
After teaching for several years, he transitioned to a career in pharmaceutical sales. He enjoyed playing cards and games at the Trussville Senior Center and won the Rook and Dominoes State Championship for several years. He loved Alabama football, basketball, and traveling with his wife Gwen. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Trussville for six decades. He served others tirelessly - whether it was rocking a grandbaby, writing letters to family and friends, or planting flowers every fall and spring for his daughters. He loved his family and friends by always showing up and giving, with humility.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen; parents, brothers, Elton Perry, Thomas Perry, and William Perry; sisters Ruth Gibbs and Florence Whitehead. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Wendell) Bedsole, Laura (Charles) Joseph, Molly (Gordon) Ogle; grandchildren Anna Bedsole, Jim (Grace) Bedsole, Blake Joseph, Brannon Joseph, Tyler Joseph, Austin (Brooke) Joseph, David Ogle, and Joshua Ogle, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Masks and Social Distancing Recommended.
