James “Jim” William Meigs, 85 of Chalkville, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and retired from the United States Postal Service. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Center Point for over 50 years where he was very active in the Lord’s work. He also served in the Alabama Army National Guard reaching the rank of Master Sergeant, was a scout leader, a lifetime member of the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club, and an enthusiastic fan of University of Alabama football. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Dean (Lawley) Meigs of Chalkville, his son, William “Todd” Meigs of Yorktown, VA and his brother Steven O. Meigs of Leeds; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Jim is preceded in passing by his parents, Steven A. Meigs and Mabel (Skinner) Meigs. Due to COVID-19, a family only graveside service will be held Wednesday at First Baptist Oak Grove Cemetery in Bessemer. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
