Harold R. Stephens

Stephens, Harold “Hixie” Robert, age 72, of Birmingham went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10. Hixie is survived by his four children, Dana Travis (Jonathan), Nathan Stephens (Lori), Kimberly Stephens, Natalie Slovensky (Ryan); his eight beloved grandchildren, Jackson, Milton Ryder and Taje Travis, Hudson, Gloria, John Domit and Mills Slovensky, and Grace Stephens; sisters and brother, Lorraine Dabney (Al), Barbara Williams (Bobby), and Robbie Stephens (Suzi); sister-in-law, Jenny Stephens; brothers in law, Bud Domit and Robert Adams; countless cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Karen Domit Stephens; his parents, Robert and Gloria (Pharo) Stephens; his twin brother, Joe Stephens, and his sister, Janice Adams. Hixie was in the Air Force Reserve, attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School and was a 1968 graduate of John Carroll High School. He was a lifelong member of St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church where he served on the Pastoral Council and SEMA. He was owner of Stephens General Contracting Inc., president of Domit Construction and numerous family businesses, and involved in countless organizations including Teams of Our Lady, Cedars Phoenician Club, Southern Federation of Syrian Lebanese American Clubs, National Apostolate of Maronites (NAM), SERTOMA, The Order of St. Sharbel, of which he was a perpetual member, and the Alabama Home Builders Association. Alongside his twin brother, Hixie established The Zyne Family Foundation, where he served as president for many years. He was also instrumental in the completion of the Maronite Heritage Center.

For his family, Hixie was their rock and a true example of a giving heart. For his nieces, nephews, and all that surrounded the Stephens family, he was “Uncle Fun” and always the life of the party. Whether it was a smile, a signature dance move, a joke, an infamous story, a bit of advice, a word of encouragement, or a prayer that was needed, Hixie was always there to offer his support. He was the most loving and devoted Husband, Daddy, Father-in-law, Jiddy, Brother, Uncle, Godfather, and Friend to so many people. We will always carry his family-centered, fun loving spirit, and faith in Our Lord and Savior as his legacy and gift to us all.

The family wishes to especially thank Von Hales of US Health Service along with Ann Allen and Rosemary Scott. Unending gratitude to Susanna Moreno for her steadfast love, care and constant prayers for both Hixie and Karen Stephens for over twenty years.

Visitation will be held from 4-6pm Thursday, May 12 with Rosary beginning at 6pm. Funeral Mass will be Friday, May 13 at 11am at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
