Ellen accepted Christ into her life at an early age in Birmingham, AL. She joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of her father, Pastor Isaiah M. Chisem, Sr., and later under the leadership of Pastor Abraham Amos and Pastor Jermaine Gaston. She later joined Mt. Zion Cathedral Church under the leadership of Bishop Awalski M. Moore.
She graduated from Ullman High School in Birmingham, AL and furthered her education at Miles College.
Ellen was employed for over 25 years with the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) as a clerical worker and bookkeeper. After retiring she worked for the Mustard Seed Daycare.
Ellen was a funny, intelligent, witty, generous and kindhearted woman who loved well and completely. She was well known and respected in the community and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaiah and Gladys Chisem, Sr.; stepmother, Catherine Chisem; brothers, Isaiah Chisem Jr., John Chisem, and Fred Chisem; and sister, Barbara Jean Robinson
Ellen leaves to cherish her precious memories: brother, Joe Dale; sister-in-law, Dorothy Chisem; sister-in-law, Martha Chisem; daughters, Catherine Williams (Ty), and Connita Chisem; sons, Darryl Chisem (Gwen), Connell Chisem (Carolyn), and Terrence Whetstone; grandchildren, Darrius Chisem (Sharun), Quenice Grady (Will), Darrian Kelly, James Williams, Chaney Benford (Drae), Chase Williams, Connell Chisem Jr., Darnell Chisem, Tiffany Roberson (Michael), LaTasha Chisem, and Alan Chisem; and a host of great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 1 PM at Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211, followed by a celebration of life at 2 PM.
Ellen was loved by many, she will be dearly missed and will always be loved.
