Dollie Reid Rikard Shannon

Dollie Reid Rikard Shannon went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2024. Dollie was born in Birmingham, AL on April 28, 1930. Her parents were Julius Schofield Reid and Mozelle Morgan Reid. Dollie graduated from Ramsay High School in May of 1948. A few months later she married Clarence Alton Rikard, Jr., with whom she had three beautiful children, all of whom were the light of her life. Mr. Rikard was a member of the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years, during which time Dollie had the opportunity to travel near and far, including assignments in South Carolina, two tours in Germany, Texas, North Carolina, and Mississippi. In 1964 Dollie and her children returned to Birmingham to live. She was a member of Metropolitan Church of God since 1982. In 1986 Dollie married James Shannon at Metropolitan Church of God and they lived in Birmingham for the remainder of their lives. James is the father of three children, eight grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Dollie was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Katherine Louise Rikard Niswonger and her sister, Mary Jane Reid Wilson of Atlanta. She is survived by her husband James; brother, Leonard E. Reid of Rogersville, AL; sons Robert Alton Rikard (Becky) of Athens, TN, and David Alan Rikard of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Lisa Niswonger Wilson (Darren), Mark Niswonger (Julie), Duane Rikard (Amy), Thomas Rikard (Michelle), Phinehas Rikard (Katie), Teresa Rikard, Tesere Rikard Deans (Josh), and Julia Reid Rikard; and 12 great grandchildren. Dollie is also survived by many friends whom she grew to know and love, all of whom added a higher dimension to her life. Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 1 pm until 1:45 pm, followed by a private graveside service for family at Elmwood Cemetery.
