Deryl L. Giles, 71, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 after a long illness of Parkinson’s and Dementia. Deryl was born in Brewton, AL., to his parents who preceded him in death, John C. Giles and Tommie Y. Brodie. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carolyn Gellness Giles; children, Scott Giles (Renee) of Cincinnati, OH, Kevin Giles of Alabaster, AL; grandchildren, Jade (Eli), Abby, Kara and Courtney Giles, Alex Keller (Rob); great grandchildren, Brayden Sargeant, Remi and Eliza Keller; brother, Wayne H. Giles (Alice); cousin JoAnn Stewart and many nieces and nephews. Deryl graduated from West End High School and attended UAB and served in the USMC as a Sergeant during the Vietnam era. He retired from American Cast Iron & Pipe Company and served on the Board of Operatives as Clerical Director. He received the award of Alabama Telecommunication’s Manager of the year for Jefferson County and the State of Alabama and served as the Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 21 and was president of the Ivy Chase Home Owners Association. Deryl was an avid golf player and he was a faithful Auburn football fan. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery. The family request memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama and the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation.
