David Bonner Johnston, age 85 of Trussville passed away on October 7, 2024 at his home after a short illness. He was born in Woodville, AL on March 10, 1939 to Charles L. Johnston and Mary Bonner Johnston.
David was a devoted husband and father, as well as a member of First Methodist Church Trussville. David enjoyed singing in many church choirs and was a member of the Warbler’s Club in Birmingham for many years.
He joined the Alabama National Guard and later transferred into the Army where he served as a Turkish Interpreter until 1967. He was a graduate of UAB. He worked for the city of Birmingham for 30 years and retired as a City Planner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Nabors Johnston and daughter Bonnie Sanders (Steve); he also leaves behind two brothers, Samuel W. Johnston (Ellen) and Terry C. Johnston, of Birmingham; three sisters-in-law, Sharon Harris (Richard), Elizabeth “Libba” Ellison (Daryl) and Judith Sharp (David) and their families.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Friday, October 11th at 11:00 a.m. with friends and family gathering an hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL at 2:00 p.m.
