December 20, 2021 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Cindy is survived by her
loving daughter, Rachel Keydoszius of Birmingham, AL; her life partner of 19 years, George Dana
Waters IV of Vestavia, AL; her sister, Cathy Watkins (Ashby) of Hoover, AL; and her nephews, Adam
Watkins of Los Angeles, CA and Andrew Watkins of Birmingham, AL. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Bettye and Wilbur Silberman. Notably, her mother, Bettye, died on the very same date,
25 years prior.
Cindy graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1970 and briefly moved to Texas before
returning to Birmingham and beginning her career as a paralegal at her father’s law firm, Gordon,
Silberman, Wiggins & Childs, where she would continue working for the next 30 years. In 2001, she
left the firm to join Dentons Sirote (formerly Sirote & Permutt) where she devoted the past 20 years
of her professional life, even working throughout her cancer journey. Cindy was an avid reader and
she had a genuine passion for animals, but above all else, she loved being a mom. When she was
diagnosed with extensive stage lung cancer in September 2020, she humbly embraced the
challenges ahead and gracefully endured every treatment without complaint and without hesitation.
She remained steadfast in her optimism and continued to defy the odds with the unconditional
support of Dana, Rachel, Cathy, Ashby, and her entire family. She was immensely grateful for the
compassionate care and kindness she received throughout the course of her illness and especially
in the days leading up to her death. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many
healthcare providers and supportive care staff at Alabama Oncology, St. Vincent’s Birmingham, and
Kindred Hospice, all of whom treated Cindy with the utmost dignity and respect.
The family will hold a small graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, December 23rd at
1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cindy’s memory to the Ascension St. Vincent's
Birmingham Bruno Cancer Center.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.johnsridouts.com for the Bailey family.
