Charles Robert Johnson (Chuck) was born on Tuesday April 27, 1937. At a young age, he joined the United States Marine Corp. He served until he was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran in October of 1955.
He made his living working as a draftsman for Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham, AL and later for Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville, AL. His work included drafting prints for the Saturn 5 rocket and various space shuttles as well as work on the CF 30 aircraft. His work on the CF 30 was showcased internationally.
After retirement, he joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Huntsville, AL.
His hobbies included beekeeping, hunting, fishing, finding arrowheads and other antique and historical artifacts. He was very talented with his hands and he made so many beautiful pieces of jewelry and furniture. He was an artist and a perfectionist. He was proud of his family, his children and grandchildren and very proud to have been a US Marine.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. and Estell Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Linda DeJarnette Johnson; children, Rhonda Johnson Hagood (Mark), Charles (Chuck) Robert Johnson II and Mary Ann Johnson Young (Rusty); grandchildren, Austin Hagood, Lauren Hagood Bush (Austin), Garrett Hagood, Dyllin Johnson, Saylor Johnson, Summer Johnson , Blake Young, Brant Young, and Lacey Young; sister, Juanita Johnson Bledsoe (Pete) and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Family will receive friends Saturday February 10, 2018 from 1:00 -2:00 PM at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
