HESTER, CARL SUMMERS Carl Hester, 61, of Shelby Shores, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012. A native of Birmingham, he was president of Hester Construction which he started in 1978. Carl was an avid sportsman and after a tragic accident left him a quadriplegic in 1988, he continued to live an active life in business and in sports. A member of the Lakeshore Foundation Shooting team in 1999-2000, Carl was active in the disabled community, serving as an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a dedicated Auburn alum and football fan, and loved Formula One racing. Always upbeat & positive, Carl was a friend to all he crossed paths with and never met a stranger. There is an empty space left in the wake of his death in the lives of his family and many close friends who will always miss him. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Harry D. Hester. He is survived by his daughter, Haley Hester, mother, Mary Nelle Hester, step mother, Peggie Hester, brothers Kenneth (Liz), and Wayne (Elizabeth), and sister, Martha Stagg (Jim), as well as a nephew and three nieces. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Johns-Ridouts Southside Chapel from 5:00-8:00. Graveside services: Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 at Elmwood Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Carl to the American Cancer Society or to Adaptive Aquatics, 1473 Paradise Cove Lane, Wilsonville, AL 35186.
