Richard Douglas "Dick" Hill died on Sunday, May 28 at the age of 80. Dick was born on November 1, 1936, in Oneida, NY to parents Ethel and Gordon Hill. He had no siblings, but a cousin Patti that he was very fond of and named his own daughter after. Dick met his wife, Janet, in the 5th grade when he moved to North Syracuse. They later became high school sweethearts and married September 13, 1958. They were married for 50 years. Dick and Janet had two children - Patti and Timothy, and two grandchildren - Rebecca and Eleanor. Dick has had the pleasure of being involved in a couples bowling league, coaching youth softball, coaching and playing for his church softball team, coaching and playing softball in the senior Olympics, and attending Texas Motor Speedway. Dick enjoyed eating lunch with good friends and grandchildren and being outside. He was a huge fan of OSU football, OKC Thunder basketball, and Nascar. Dick started college in Syracuse and later finished at OCU in Oklahoma City. Before his retirement in 1990, he was a valued employee at General Electric and Seagate, and he loved what he did. After retirement, he enjoyed taking many road trips with his wife, playing and coaching softball, and volunteering at the OKC marathon. A service will be held Thursday, June 1 at 2:00 pm at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, from 4pm to 8pm at Bill Merritt Funeral Home.
