Longtime Oklahoma City resident, Mary Ellen Carr, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. She was born March 22, 1921 in Perry, Oklahoma to Joe and Marie Palovik. As the second oldest of seven children, her childhood during the depression was not easy. At the age of 16 she left her home and worked various jobs, including being a Rosie the Riveter during World War II. When the war was over, she met her husband, Harvey Carr. While he was in the military, he saved up all of his money. For her wedding gift, Harvey surprised her with a house that was fully paid for. As a wedding gift to them both, Harvey’s parents fully furnished their home for them. Mary loved to garden and was always able to make it flourish. She also greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Mary didn’t drive, so she would take the bus where she needed or wanted to go. She would often take all of her grandchildren with her and would take them all over Oklahoma City. Mary was a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church and attended until her health declined. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many and will be dearly missed. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; siblings, John Palovik, Ann Good, Ed Palovik, Margretta Fore, and Patricia Jones. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Rusty Greenfield; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Karen Carr; brother, Jim Palovik; grandchildren, Cody (Lacy) Greenfield, Cacey (Mike) Roller, Rhonda (Jerry) Wood, Kyle (Bridget) Carr, Carisa (Francisco) Carrasco, Chad Carr, and Stacey Carr; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Services will be 2pm Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Guardian West Funeral Home with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
