Larry Leon Taylor passed away peacefully in his sleep March 7, 2021 at the age of 81. Born February 10, 1940 in Enid, OK to Glenn and Vera Taylor. He grew up in Waukomis, OK where his parents were wheat farmers. Growing up he loved working on the farm, drawing, basketball, and fishing. He graduated from OSU with an Architecture Degree. During this time, he joined the OK Army National Guard for 6 years. Upon graduating from OSU, he worked for several architectural offices then started his own firm in 1981. During his 40 year career, he worked on hundreds of projects throughout OK. His dedication to excellence provided award winning work for Smicklas, OU stadium, Heritage Hall and Cassidy Schools, First National Bank of Altus, Ponca City Country Club, the state fairgrounds and more. He was an avid sports fan but especially loved watching his OSU Cowboys play any sport. Upon retiring, he bought his dream cabin on the Conejos River in Horca, Colorado. He loved spending time there over the last 16 years and sharing this beautiful place with his family and friends. Larry was a member of Putnam City Baptist Church for almost 40 years where he served on many committees and a variety of roles. He had a strong and unwavering faith that was a huge source of strength for his family and friends. He was incredibly generous, caring and was always willing to help others however he could. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him but may you know the same peace he is experiencing today with Jesus. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 34 years, Phyllis Taylor, who was the love of his life; his sisters Beverly Dahlke and Sherlene Carruth and grandson, Dylan LeGrande. He is survived by his beautiful friend Jean White; his daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Brad, Pamela, Machell and Kevin, Stacey and Alan; grandchildren, Jason, John, Derek, Tyler, Taylor, Landry and Hayden; great grandchildren, Mikayla, Abigal, Linken and Dash. Because of Larry’s love for children with Autism, and in lieu of flowers, donations to AutismOklahoma.org in his honor are welcome. This fund will help young adults with autism transition into adulthood. Visitation with the family will be 5pm-7pm Thursday, March 11 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
The celebration of his life will be 10am Friday, March 12 at Putnam City Baptist Church with internment to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Streaming services available for those unable to attend.
