Larry D. Lee passed away June 11, 2022 in Mustang, OK at the age of 76. Larry was born November 17, 1946 in Pontiac, MI to Norman D. and Ruby M (Byrd) Lee. He was first and foremost, above all, a loving husband to Cheri (Dudley) Lee, his wife of 52 years, who he met in 1970. They were dedicated to each other through the years and this would turn out to be his greatest legacy. Larry attended high school in Michigan. After his parents divorced, he lived in Michigan with his dad and grandmother for many years. He played baseball in high school and was one of the best hitters and players on his team. He loved collecting baseball cards as a kid and had many autographed balls and cards of famous players like Mickey Mantle and other greats. One of his favorite past times growing up was attending major league games with his dad and later taking his daughters to many minor league games as well as coaching them in various sports, such as t-ball, softball, basketball and track throughout their school years. Larry left Michigan his senior year of high school and came to live with his mother in OKC and graduated from Classen HS. He would join the Army soon after graduation. After a short term in the Army, he later joined the Marine Corps. He met the love of his life, Cheri, and that is when life began. They began their family with Cheri’s two young children, Cindy and Donald and he raised them as his own. They were married on January 17, 1972 at the Christ Gospel Church in MWC. They added 3 daughters to their family, Tara, Lisa and Beth. Larry worked in a variety of fields, but was a blue collar worker most of his life. He was a simple man and a “straight shooter”. He was truly the meaning behind the saying “what you see, is what you get”. He was admired by his children and was their protector. They knew nothing could hurt them because they could call on “DAD THE BAD” and bad he was if you were messing with “his girls”. He became a grandfather and was lovingly known as “Poppy” and if you asked him what he was most proud of he would say his grandkids and great grandkids. He will forever be remembered as Poppy in our hearts, because that name was associated with the role he loved best. Simply put, Larry was about FAMILY. He helped raise his first granddaughter, Taylor and took pride in helping coach her in soccer and attending every soccer game she played, later he also enjoyed watching Cruz and Cristiano play as well. He loved getting together on holidays with all of the family, he was very proud of all of them and they brought him great joy. He will be greatly missed, as he was a huge part in all of our lives. He will remain in our hearts for eternity. Larry is survived by his wife, Cheri, daughters, Cindy and husband Steve, Tara and husband, Joe, Lisa, Beth and husband Josh and son, Donald Biggers, 13 grandchildren, Taylor, Mason, Jake, Zane, Carly, Kensley, Kylin, Mckenzie, Kelsey, Marcos, Zach, Chaz and Brandon and 11 great grandchildren, Cruz, Cristiano, River, Blakely, Lennon, Bennett, Cheslin, Channing, Mia, Sophia and Lincoln. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, David Remington and Adrain Byrd.
A graveside service for Larry will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, Oklahoma.
