Robert Alan Clasen, 58, of Belton, MO went to be with our lord and savior on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Belton Regional Hospital, in Belton. He was born February 11, 1963 in Emporia, KS., the son of Richard “Dick” and Linnie Clasen.
He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1981, where he was active in football, theater and choir; while simultaneously earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Kansas State University in 1988.
On May 9, 1987, he was united in marriage to Kelly McKenzie in Manhattan, KS. He worked for K-mart for 24 years before taking a position with BNSF Railway, where he worked as a conductor/switch-man for the last 17 years. He was a member of K- State alumni, Alpha Phi Omega Alumni and the K-State alumni choir. He was also a leader in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and an active member of his church, where he served as church board secretary and all around handyman.
Robert was a man of God, always leading his family and many others by God’s word. He took the lead in any situation, when the need arose. Above all things, Robert cherished his family and close friends. He lived his life to the fullest and his laugh was always one you could pick out in a crowd.
He served as comic relief at many functions and had the ability to calm any situation down. The only time this was questionable was when he was behind the wheel, as he entered the NASCAR speedway and felt he had to beat the time provided by GPS. He was an avid Star Trek fan, and never missed a chance to explain why Star Trek was better than Star Wars. “Aye Captain, I’m given her all she’s got.”
Honoring his generous wish, the gift of life was shared with many people in need through organ and tissue donation.
He is survived by his wife Kelly, of the home; four children, Laureese “Reese” Greene and husband Mike of Norfolk, VA; Katrina “Katie” Collins and boyfriend Will Peterson of Belton, MO; Marjorie “Maggie” Clasen of NAS Lemoore, CA; and Robert “Robbie” Clasen Jr. and wife Samantha of Mount Vernon, MO; five sisters, Kathy Schwar and husband Bill of Sun City West, AZ.; Shari Hendrickson and husband Jim of Olathe, KS; Rebecca Schultz and husband Tim of Park City, KS; Robin Wunderlich and husband Wes of Eureka, KS and Annette Friery and husband Brian of Cartersville, GA; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Anderson, Mackenzie, Mya, Matthew, Jackson, Connor, Adelaide and Alaric; mother-in-law Sherry Stokes of Belton, MO; and two uncles, David Clasen of Seattle, WA; and Ernie Hicks and wife Gail of Olathe, KS; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Linnie and Steve Norsworthy and Richard and Rachel Clasen; one brother, Eric Norsworthy and infant sister, Regina Clasen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in his name to Belton New Horizons Church of the Nazarene.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, July 17, at 4 p.m. at the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene, 17200 Chestnut Dr, Belton, MO 64012.
