Eva (Eve) E. Schmidt, 94, Raymore, passed away June 9, 2014 peacefully surrounded by her family at the KC Hospice House. Visitation 10-11 am, the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am Saturday, June 14 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1111 Foxwood Dr. in Raymore. Burial in Raymore Cemetery. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the church or KC Hospice.
Eve was born November 19, 1919 on a farm near Pekin, Iowa, to George and Mamie (Dickens) Denny. She was graduated from Hedrick High School in 1937 and attended Iowa State Teachers College.
On November 2, 1940, she married John Harold Schmidt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. In 1941, the couple moved to Kansas City. They had two daughters, Denny and Carlene, before he left to serve in the Navy in 1944. A son, Jack, was born in 1948, and a daughter, Barbara, in 1950. The family moved to a farm in Raymore in 1951.
Together, the couple renovated the farmhouse and later designed and built three homes. Eve enjoyed woodworking, quilting, making rugs, and playing the organ and piano.
Eve was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and played the organ at church services for many years.
She is survived by her children, Denny (Pete) Lorenz, Overland Park, KS, Charlene (Harold) Dickerson, Cleveland, MO, Jack (Cory) Schmidt, Riverton Wyoming, and Barbara Massey, Belton, MO; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
