Robert “Bob” Murphy, age 80, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 in Bellevue, Washington. He was born in San Francisco, California to Walter and Ramona Murphy. Bob grew up in the Bay Area and graduated from the University of Santa Clara with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Bob knew his call to engineering early and went on to execute some of the largest, heaviest, and most complicated maritime & overland transports of his time. His endeavors spanned decades, working with E.H. Bean Trucking, Bigge Crane and Rigging, Crowley Maritime, SATOL in Saudi Arabia, and Shaughnessy & Co here in the Pacific Northwest. Amongst his many professional accolades, awards, and recognitions too numerous to list, Bob notably earned consecutive Transportation and Hauling Jobs of the Year by the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association. His engineering feats and love of adventure took him around the world multiple times; traveling to over 26 countries. Bob was also passionate about education, politics, and world events; and gave generously to charities.
Bob and his wife Eugenia of 55 years took great joy in spending time with and supporting their children and grandchildren. No distance was too far; they would travel around the country and the world to be present and celebrate all of their special events.
His love of the water is renowned. Bob was his best self while out on the water at the helm of his Mariah with his family onboard, or dockside at his favorite place in the world - Roche Harbor on San Juan Island. Both a sign of the esteem of his peers’ and Bob’s true nature, his Fidalgo Yacht Club awarded him “Good Samaritan of the Year” for 2021.
Bob “Papa” is survived by his wife Eugenia, children Joseph (Colleen) and Tiffany (Michael), grandchildren Caitlin, Tara, Regan, Victoria, Sullivan, and especially his twin sister Tina, who will always love and cherish his life and memory. He is also survived by a host of extended family and friends that will always carry him in their hearts.
The family welcomes you to join the Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church in Kirkland, Washington at 11:00am on Friday, January 21, 2022 with reception to follow.
