Lael Louisa Curran was born on September 29th, 1952 at Fort Lawton in Seattle, Washington to Barbara and James Curran. The fourth (and final) child of the family, she spent her early years moving around the world with her Navy family; living in Seattle, Rhode Island, Virginia, Italy, France and Japan. A self proclaimed “tom boy,” Lael grew up experiencing the world with her two brothers, Jay Curran & Rob Foxcurran, as well as her older sister, Cyndy Curran-Bamburg.
She eventually made her way back to the Northwest, graduating from Bellevue HS in 1970 before attending the University of Washington and majoring in Anthropology. Lael began her career as a model before finding her passion as a buyer at Frederick & Nelson. A few years later, her love for travel and adventure led her to a job as a flight attendant at Alaska Airlines where she would meet not only her future husband (Eric Bennett), but also many lifelong friends. An avid runner & athlete, she competed in races up and down the west coast, spent summers water skiing on Lake Washington and winters snow skiing on the slopes of the Cascades.
Lael married Eric on September 28th, 1984, moved to Bellevue, WA and enjoyed 36 years of marriage together. After giving birth to her two sons (Bryce & Collin Bennett), she made the selfless decision to leave her career and stay home to raise them. Lael threw herself into being the best mom possible, acting as the ceremonial and administrative leader for the family. No holiday could go without decor, no birthday without a balloon and no week without a family phone call. She was the consummate hostess, not only celebrating every small holiday, but also every life milestone (big or small), Seahawks Sundays and Curran family Christmases. Lael was the anchor for a trio of boys that often pushed the limits when it came to her natural love of order and consistency.
Lael Curran Bennett passed unexpectedly, but peacefully, on September 28th, 2020; one day shy of her 68th birthday. The Bennett family will carry on her memory and celebrate her legacy for generations to come.
We thank you for your outpouring of support, love and remembrance of our sister, mom and wife. For information regarding Lael’s Celebration of Life please reach out to Bryce Bennett at (206) 551-6910 or [email protected].
