My favorite memory of Grandpa was riding our bikes on the trail for miles and miles.  I learned so much from him on those trips.  A couple years ago, when he was 86, he was in town and rode bikes his grandaughter(Bryten).  I remember him riding in circles with her and now that is one of her favorite memories of him.  Great memories that span generations.  When I think of Grandpa, all I think about is how genuine he was.  We will all remember all of the great times we all had together.

We have known John and Eleanor for about 23 years from the time we moved next door to them. By Grace of God, John turned out to be very friendly and one of the kindest neighbors that we have ever had.

Over the years, John was always very helpful lending us some of his garden and other tools, offering advice and showing us how to trim back some of shrubs and bushes in our garden. Not only that but he was very generous and did not fail to share with us apples that he picked from trees in his yard.

We are so glad John (and Eleanor) came into our lives ... We will miss him. A beautiful hydrangea thriving in our garden, a present from John at my retirement celebration, will always remind us of him and his kindness.

John was a wonderful person and friend. He was an expert on apples.  My
husband, Don enjoyed many happy times talking with John on apples as
well as picking and eating them. He will be missed!

I've known John and Eleanor for about 30 years both at Boeing and in and around the orchard.  John was a most-likeable guy, had a great sense of humor, and knew a lot about system engineering and growing fruit.

I've seen John and Eleanor at many fruit society events and have always felt welcomed by their presence. He was a good person to know. They helped me feel connected. I just came from a web site that included a quote from John Muir:  "When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world." Chief Seattle said the same thing: We are all connected in the web of life. We all know this, but it's easy to forget. John lived it.

My first grafting experience was watching the hands of John graft a piece of my family's King onto rootstock.  He explained the whole process and made it look so easy.  Whenever I look at that small tree I'll think of John.  STFS is a better organization due to his participation.  Always a friendly man, who often ask how my tree was doing - I'm thankful I had the opportunity to learn from him. Joslyn

John and Eleanor were wonderful to have in the Seattle Tree Fruit Society.  Volunteering at every STFS fruit show that I was a part of.  Big Smiles when I'd see them.  John was quick to start conversations about fruit growing and how his garden did.  He was a delight to be around.  He is missed.
