Catherine “Katy” Stein, 55, born May 3, 1958 in California passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 surrounded by her family at her residence in Millstadt. Katy and her husband were owners of the GNC store in Swansea. Katy retired from the Swansea Police Department, providing service as a school resource officer and a crisis intervention negotiator. Prior to her service as a police officer, Katy worked for Child Protective Services helping to remove abused children from homes of neglect and abuse. She was a world traveler and was proud to have climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. She was a passionate supporter of the Special Olympics and was a member of Green Mount Road Church of Christ.
Katy is preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances (nee Wilson) Clancy.
Katy is survived by her husband of 37 years, John Stein; daughter, Emily (Keith) McPherson; sons, Chris and Adam Stein; grandson, Konnor McPherson; a brother, Paul; sisters, Joanie (Larry)Hoff and Maura (John) Penny; her mother-in-law, Frances Soistman and father-in-law, George Stein, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Linda (Tommy) Peters and Mary (the late Joe) Miller; brothers-in-law, George III (Linda) Stein, and Mark (Barbara) Stein; and special friends, Bob and Addy Ginter and Carl Klossen.

Visitation: Friends may call on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 12:30 -1 p.m. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois
Funeral Service: A procession honoring Katy and her service as an officer of the law will leave the funeral home on Saturday for a memorial service scheduled at 2 p.m. at Green Mount Road Church of Christ, 25 N. Green Mount Rd., Belleville, IL.
