She entered the Congregation of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament on March 8, 1949 and made her perpetual profession of vows on August 15, 1956. She earned B.A. and MRE degrees from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
Sister Dympna answered generously to the call to minister to God’s people. She happily and successfully served for 25 years as an elementary teacher and principal in the dioceses of Austin, Beaumont and in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. However, she felt called to move on. During the next 27 years, she served as a director of religious education, hospital chaplain, and pastoral minister at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Houston.
As a dedicated member of her congregation, she served her community as a director of formation and as a congregational archivist.
Sister enjoyed her visits back to her homeland, Ireland as well as her trips to Chicago where three of her siblings lived with their families. Her educational preparation for ministry afforded her new, exciting experiences and opportunities to build friendships in many different places around the country. In her own words, she proclaims, “I have been blessed beyond all telling. I am deeply grateful for my family, community, and the wonderful experiences and relationships I have been privileged to have over the years.”
Her parents, and brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Devoted nieces and nephews survive her.
