Olivia Reiner was born in Pharr, Texas to Elvira and Felix Aguirre and was the oldest of six children. She was married to the love of her life, Irvin Aaron Reiner, for 43 years until his death in 2020. Olivia and Irvin’s special connection can be exemplified by his willingness to help her raise her three children, Moses, Gary, and Elisa. Together, Irvin and Olivia had a son, Bert, and later in life, they were blessed with Keiry to raise as their own. Olivia was a proud stepmother to Howard Reiner and mother-in-law to Abigail (wife of Howard) and Meredith (wife of Bert).
Family and charitable acts were her life’s work. She would often say she would give out of gratitude because her family is blessed. She actively sought help from anyone willing to participate in community volunteerism. Bert’s friends were able to achieve their B’nai B’rith Youth Organization community hours through her organization that was focused on feeding the homeless and serving the less fortunate. Olivia received the prestigious Jefferson Award honoring those who dedicated time to public service.
Whether it be hospital visits, coordinating meals, chauffeuring people to where they needed to go, Olivia was the first to be there for anyone in time of need. She would make herself available day or night to those who needed care, help, comfort, or a big hug. She would often solicit restaurants for their excess so she could give to the homeless. She impacted countless lives through her simple acts of kindness and loving gestures. Though charitable giving was her greatest accomplishment, her family was her biggest treasure. She thoroughly enjoyed hosting family gatherings and preparing home cooked meals for her loved ones. Olivia’s dining room table was always set with formal china, crystal, and silver with food to feed an army. Her door was always open for holidays with family and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her parents Elvira and Felix Aguirre, brothers Felix Jr. and Benito Aguirre, husband Irvin Reiner, and grandson Joseph Avila. She is survived by siblings Mary Jones, Isabel Mata, and Ricardo Aguirre, her children, numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held at Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
