Sr. Frederick Hillary, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, completed her journey in this life on October 5, 2011 at St. Placidus Convent, Houston, TX. May she rejoice always in God’s Presence in Heaven.
Sr. Frederick was born in 1929 in Liscune, Ballinsloe, Co. Galway, Ireland to Mary Nutley Hillary and Thomas Hillary. She was given the name Mary Theresa. On October 25th.,1945 Mary Theresa entered the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX, at St. Michael’s Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. Sister made first profession of vows on June 6, 1948 and perpetual profession of vows on June 6, 1953 at Villa de Matel, Houston. A teacher by profession she taught for 30 years in the following schools: St. Frances Cabrini, Alexandria, LA; Our Lady of Fatima, Texas City; and St. Francis of Assisi, Houston. Sister also served as principal at J.L. Collins Catholic School in Corsicana, TX. Following three years as local leader at St. Joseph Convent, Houston, Sr. Frederick dedicated 18 years of ministry as a patient representative at St. Frances Hospital, Tulsa, OK, and St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, LA. Sr. Frederick’s lifelong mission was to be a “Gospel of Love” to all whom she met and served.
Sr. Frederick is survived by two brothers, Pascal Hillary Liscune, Ireland and Leo Hillary W. Duxburg, MA, and two sisters: Sister. Julia Hillary, Kingston, MA and Sr. Angela Hillary Galway City, Ireland. She is also survived by a number of
Nieces and Nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
A special thank you is extended to all who cared for Sister during her illness.
Sr. Frederick’s body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX, at 5:00 P.M on Sunday October 9, 2011 followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at 10:30 A.M. on Monday October 10, 2011. Rite of Committal will follow at Villa de Matel Cemetery.
