Jean K. Maher, 90, passed away in Houston, Texas on February 1, 2014 from complications related to surgeries for a broken hip. Jean was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1923 and spent her youth in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she also attended Buena Vista University. After attending college, Jean was a flight attendant for American Airlines for several years. She married Robert (Bob) Maher in 1949. She and Bob lived most of their adult lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with stints spent in Odessa, Houston and Brownsville, Texas, and Oakbrook, Illinois.
Most of all Jean cherished her time with her family. One of her fondest memories was of a cruise around the Baltic Sea for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration with her husband, daughter, son and his wife, and three grandsons. She had many treasured friendships during her years in Tulsa, some lasting 50 years or more. Jean loved to travel with her husband, putter in the garden, swim lap after lap, needlepoint, knit, work crossword and jigsaw puzzles and play bridge, gin rummy, cribbage and solitaire. While enjoying retirement in Tulsa, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She spent the last years of her life in Houston.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother and father, Emma and Floyd Davis. She is survived by Robert, her husband of 64 years; daughter, Diana Hill; son, Michael Maher, his wife, Jeanne, and their son, David; grandson, Blake Hill, his wife, Kelly, and their sons,Colin and Ethan; and grandson, Brandon Hill, his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Sloane.
