Elaine was born in Dallas, TX, on November 25, 1921, to Hyman and Rose Watel. She is preceded in death by her brother Louis Watel.
Elaine attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she was selected to be a Bluebonnet Belle. She met Saul Friedman while at UT and they were married January 28, 1939.
Elaine’s world revolved around her family, and she was devoted to her husband, son, and daughter, their spouses, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a kind and generous person who brought happiness to those around her. Her warm smile and grand Southern style embraced her family and friends at every opportunity.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Saul Friedman, her son Stephen Joel Friedman, her daughter Susan Ann Davis and her husband Hiram Trimble Davis. Her grandchildren Stephanie Friedman Evans and her husband Greg, Kathryn Friedman Stanford and her husband Brian, Elaine Barksdale Finucane and her husband Michael, and Elaine’s most treasured legacy, her great grandchildren; Henry Friedman Evans, Eloise Marie Evans, Frances Marie Evans, Nora Bea Stanford, Meredith Lane Finucane, Elizabeth Sinclair Finucane, and Mary Kathryn Louise Finucane.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, September 19, 2014, at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 North Braeswood, in the Gordon Chapel.
The family expresses their deep gratitude for the extraordinary care provided by Dr. Stephen Koch and Dr. Robert G. Hust. They want to acknowledge the kindness and attention given by every single one of the caretakers who watched over Elaine.
