She was born in New Orleans, LA as the only child to parents Charles and Evelyn Hecker on December 1, 1919. The small family moved to coastal Texas in the larger Houston vicinity when she was six years old and she would prove to never leave the coastal city. She loved her father’s sisters and brothers dearly and especially enjoyed afternoons spent with her Aunt Ilene. She graduated from St. Agnes in 1937 and would attend classes at the University of Houston as a geology major. While she was attending classes she caught the eye of the man that would become her husband, Richard Gilbert “Dick” Sneed, Jr. Their first of four children would be born to them in 1945 and their family life would be plenty and abundant. They would lose their youngest daughter, Evelyn, to a blood clot in 1973, and Catherine would lose Dick to his fourth heart attack in 1976. She would fill her time with travels both in the United States and abroad.
