Carole was born November 15, 1933 in San Francisco, California to Bess and Edward Morgen. Carole met the love of her life, Morton, at a Jewish singles party in North Carolina. After Morton returned from Korean War, they were married. Carole enjoyed being a stay at home wife/mother but she also wanted more. Once her 2 children were both in Elementary school she went back to college at night and received her Master in Library Science. Working as teacher gave Carole the opportunity to be home when her children were home. Morton and Carole moved from New Bern, North Carolina to Houston during the summer of 1964. She was hired that year to be the assistant librarian at Westbury High School. The following year as the librarian she opened Madison HS, 1971 she opened HSPVA and HS for Medical Professions at their temporary locations. Once HSPVA had a permanent building worked there until her retirement in 1994. Rabbi Hyman Schachtel asked her to catalog the library at Congregation Beth Israel for easy access for the membership in early 1970s.
In retirement Carole starting substitute teaching the Jewish day schools, volunteering at Evelyn Rubenstein JCC and several years she managed the book store during the Book Fair and docent at the Houston Holocaust Museum.
Her hobby starting in the mid-1990s was collecting bears, it all started with the Tyco Beany toy craze. While traveling the world, mainly cruising, she bought bears of all types, sizes and materials. She converted a bedroom into the Bear Room. There were so many stuffed animals in the room the room was totally sound proof.
Her life drastically changed April 2001, she suffered a major stroke; she spent the next couple years in rehab. Morton took care of Carole at home and they returned to cruising with help of a wheel chair with Morton for a few more years. December 2015, Morton had to move his wife to Seven Acres for more help than he could handle at home. Morton went to stay with her every day for the entire day until his death.
She is predeceased by her husband, Morton Lipman and granddaughter, Megan Canady. She is survived by her children Alan & Lisa Lipman and Caren Canady, her grandchildren, Meredith & Jon Berry, and Shara & David Serrano, and her great grandchildren, Camilla, Sebastian, & Shea Serrano and Jaxon & Miles Berry.
