Sara “Sally” M. Snyder, long-time resident of Camp Hill PA and more recently of Bel Air MD, passed away on August 11, 2018. She was married to Donn L. Snyder for 70 years until his death in February of this year.
Sally was born Sara Mae Meyer in Vandergrift PA on March 27, 1927, the only daughter of C. Claude and Sara Jane (Wigle) Meyer, who predeceased her along with her two older brothers and their wives. She attended Grove City (PA) College where she met and married her husband, and together they raised four children. She is survived by her children: Joyce Rappaport of Hilton Head Island SC, Dr. Barbara (Dr. Jerry) Nepom of Lopez Island WA, David (Candy) Snyder of Bel Air MD, and Nancy Snyder of Spring Creek NV; by her grandchildren Jonathan (Amanda) Snyder, Alison Snyder, Jessica Nepom and three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Sally was most of all a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her number one priority throughout her life was her family. She was the household organizer, financial manager, medic, activities coordinator, event planner, personal shopper, accomplished seamstress, family/ local news correspondent, and travel planner among other things.
Among her interests were gardening and backyard bird-watching. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, trivia contests, board games with her children and grandchildren, and spending time with her family, especially Christmases and annual summer gatherings at the seashore. Through the years she traveled with her husband to Europe and the Caribbean, as well as making numerous trips throughout the US, many of the latter occasioned by the widespread locales of their children.
During her years in Camp Hill, Sally was a member of the AAUW, the CH Women’s Club, book clubs, a bowling league, the “poolsitters" group and an investment club among other activities. She volunteered with a number of local organizations, including Meals on Wheels, and served on the Board of Harrisburg’s Presbyterian Apartments. She was a member of the Pine Street Presbyterian Church for over 66 years.
Sally’s memory may be honored by gifts to Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 310 N. Third St, Harrisburg PA 17101 or to a charity of your choice - or by sharing a moment of quality time with someone who cares about you. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
