Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Mickey Mantle West Jr., United States Army, of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Mickey’s love for the Army and the Signal Corps in which he served was outshined only by his love for his family. Mickey is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth M. West (Pominville); their daughters, Iris MacKenna West, Natalie Grace West, and Autumn Jewel West; his siblings, Katharine West, Michael Miller, and Amanda Miller; and his mother, Elicia J. Atkins. Mickey is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; and their playful puppy Luna. Mickey’s legacy of selfless service to the Army and our Nation will never be forgotten. His compassionate leadership will be remembered by comrades and friends at duty stations across the globe. LTC West’s career spanned 22 years and took him to six continents: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America, as well as two deployments to Iraq. In the course of his service, he earned his Parachutist Badge and Combat Infantry Badge, and was awarded five Meritorious Service Medals and a Bronze Star.
A visitation for Mickey will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm at at the Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc., at 610 W. MacPhail Road, Bel Air, MD 21014
A funeral service open to family, friends, and service members will be Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 11:00 am.
Interment will be private.

Leadership at Aberdeen Proving ground invite service members unable to attend the funeral services to the Unit Memorial. It will be held 2 July 2024 1300 at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Chapel. Aberdeen, Maryland.
