George Edward Hubbard Sr., age 89, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Beloved husband of Margery Hubbard for nearly seventy years; devoted father of George E. Hubbard Jr. and his wife Judith Hubbard; proud grandfather of Mandi H. White (Christopher), Christopher J. Hubbard (Tiffany), and George B. Hubbard (Tricia); cherished great grandfather of Landon and Hadley White, Rowan and Sloan Hubbard, and Bear and Crew Hubbard; dear brother of Al Hubbard and his wife Carol, Charlie Hubbard and his wife Cathy, and the late Gene Hubbard and Jerry Hubbard, and parents Eugene and Margaret Hubbard.
George was born and raised in Long Island, New York. It was in Holtsville, New York (Long Island) that him and Margie started a family raising George Hubbard, Jr. One of George’s greatest accomplishments was being a parent to ‘Georgie’, their only child. George worked for Smithtown Concrete as a foreman, and retired after 35 years. Despite many trips, the distance from Long Island to Bel Air, MD, was too far for George Sr. and Marge from George, Judy, Mandi, Chris and Brandon. Over thirty years ago, they moved to Bel Air, MD, fortunate to find a home on the same street as their son. This enabled George and Marge to rarely miss an awards ceremony, sports event or family get-together. They were even frequent babysitters for their great-grandchildren Landon and Hadley. It was in Bel Air where his love, passion and brilliance for restoring things led to the transformation of his pride and joy, his 1959 Mercedes 190sl. It was this car, that he restored completely by himself, that was in each of his grandchildren’s weddings, numerous Bel Air Parades and countless award-winning car shows that took him from Bel Air, Ocean City, Florida and even Kentucky.
To know ‘George Senior’, was to love him. He was a brilliant, quiet and gentle soul, and once you got him talking, you were blessed to hear his wit and wisdom.
Friends and family may gather from 12:00-12:30pm at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc. 610 W. MacPhail Road Bel Air, MD 21014 on Sunday, October 20, 2024, followed by a brief memorial service that will be celebrated for George Hubbard Sr. at 12:30pm. A Celebration of Life to immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s name and memory to the American Cancer Society in honor of all affected and him overcoming it multiple times. https://cancer.org/dignitymemorial
