It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Margaret Louise Short or “Weezy”, as she was known to her family and friends on January 28, 2022 following a long courageous battle with Alzheimers.
Margaret was born on June 21, 1937 in Litwar, WV; she was a daughter of the late Alex and Dorothy Bannister.
Margaret graduated from Baileysville High School in 1956, she then met and married the love of her life, Gaylord L. Short. Gaylord and Margaret were just a few months shy of 66 years of marriage.
Margaret loved bowling, Sudoku, cooking and spending time with her family. She had a “green thumb” when it came to gardening (Her yard was full of beautiful flowers). She loved playing video games, her favorite was Dr. Mario, board games, and card games, and was very competitive with her family.
Margaret's greatest accomplishment in life, her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Jack Bannister, Patty Angle, and Harry Bannister.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Gaylord L. Short; three children, Debby Vira and husband, Mike of Beckley, Becky Smith and husband Bill “Butch” of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rick T. Short (United States Army Retired) and wife, Trecia of Daniels; four grandchildren, Michael Vira and wife, Dr. Amanda Vira, Dr. Ashlee Smith and fiancé, Dr. Michael Hansen, Krista Goff and husband, Richard Goff, Rikki Short and companion, Andrew Hitchcock; great-grandchildren, Connor Vira, and Charlie and Riley Goff; a brother, Robert Bannister; extended family and friends.
Private services were held due to COVID concerns. Following the services, Margaret was laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
