On February 26, 2020, Margaret Louise Harris Pierce, a lifelong resident of Beckley, passed away at Bowers Hospice House. Born November 8, 1930 in Beckley, WV she was the daughter of the late Elzie Harris and Georgia Edwards Harris Huffman.
Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James H. Pierce Sr. as well as her only brother, James A. Huffman, Jr. Also preceding her were her beloved grandmother Goldie Edwards and her aunt, Clyde and uncle, Kyle Lilly, as well as her cherished dog Abby.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her two sons, James H. Pierce Jr. and wife Sherri of Grandview, WV; Timothy Ray Pierce and wife Nancy of Lexington, NC; her daughter, Trina Pierce Griffith and husband Steve of Beckley, WV. Grandchildren include Jay Pierce and fiancé Violet Baldwin, Casey Pierce and wife Crystal, Philip Griffith and wife Emily, Andrea and Isabella Pierce, Justin Massie and wife Chrystal. Great Grandchildren, Mackenzie and Brayden Pierce, Jackson and Caitlin Griffith and Gabby Massie. A treasured sister-in-law and best friend Mary Pierce and her daughter Kathy Vanover. Also a special cousin to her heart Kylette Lilly Brown and husband Mike, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Margaret retired from United National Bank, having also worked at Beckley National Bank. She was a long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her church family and especially the ladies of her Bible study group.
On March 21, 2019, Margaret moved into the Harper Mills facility, making it her new home. The staff there became like family. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks. Appreciation and love to those who took care of Mom as if she was their own. B-Wing nurses Rebecca, Randy and Tracy, along with special CNAs Kayla, Amanda, Jessica and Monique, and so many others too numerous to mention.
When the time came to move Mom to Bowers Hospice House, the entire staff there treated her so gently, caring for her peace and dignity.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Friends may visit with the family on February 29, 2020 from 11:00am-1:00pm. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, where she will be reunited with her husband, Jim. Grandsons and family members will serve as pallbearers.
