Kermit Dale Bridges, 90, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 following a long illness. He is survived by his partner in life, Carleta Shortridge, his son William Lee Bridges, and his daughter, Melanie Sue Gersper, and his grandchildren, Madison Bridges, Kyle Gersper, Stephanie Gersper, Zackery Bridges, and Aaron Bridges. He has one surviving sibling, John Bridges.
He was born January 3, 1933 in Ferrum, VA; he was the son of the late Milton Lee and Erma Kincaid Bridges. He grew up in W. Va. and although he settled in Ohio for most of his career, he eventually returned to W. Va - the place he always called home, the place that had a strong hold on his heart.
Kermit served his country proudly in the United States Air Force; he held a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and worked with AEP Service Corp Electrical for 35 years.
HIs hobbies included golf (he had a massive collection of golf balls - one of his pass times was finding golf balls on golf courses), bowling in his younger years, bird watching, and collecting coins. He trained birds to eat out of his hands via a window bird feeder. He was a lover of nature and his favorite meal was beans and cornbread. He was an avid gardener and at one time grew a garden that encompassed several acres, including 3 acres of sweet corn, that he made his kids harvest and sell one summer. He was committed to brutal honesty and perfection - you can decide if those were positive character traits, or not. :)
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Nathan Bridges and Alice DeLoach.
In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no formal services held. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.blueridgefuneralhome.com
