Jimmie Lee Blevins, 83, of Narrows, VA, went to his heavenly home on February 9, 2022, in New River Valley Medical Center, Radford, VA surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 17, 1938 in Keen Mountain, VA to the late Kemper and Katherine Ashby Blevins.
Jimmie spent most of his life as a WV resident. He and his wife moved to Narrows, VA after their retirement where they have spent the last 20 years. His early years were spent in Chicago, IL working in factories. In 1970 he moved to WV to raise his family. He worked for Eastern Coal at Harris #2 mines for 12 years. Then retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education where he drove a school bus for 16 years. His favorite passion was serving the Lord in ministry. He pastored the Assembly of God, Sylvester, WV. He spent several years over the bus ministry at the Assembly of God in Dorothy, WV. After that he spent the rest of his ministry years serving in the Church of God of Prophecy where he pastored at Clear Creek, Dry Creek, and Victor, WV. He also spent many years evangelizing throughout the state. In his younger years he spent time in KY traveling with another preacher holding tent revivals. Finally after moving to VA he became a member of the Narrows, VA Church of God of Prophecy (Mountain View Ministries) where he continued to faithfully serve for the last 20 years by preaching and assisting the pastor whenever needed.
He loved his family fierce and they loved him just as fiercely. He left behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Marie Bailey Blevins, four daughters, Sharon Dunbar and husband, Rickie of Dublin, VA, Shirley Tolley and husband, Bub of Christiansburg, VA Debra Minor and husband, Pete of Beckley, WV and Stona Steele and fiancé, Brian Crawford of Narrows, VA; and one son, Jimmy Blevins and companion, Julie Blevins of Oceana, WV; he also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Jennifer Dunbar of Dublin, VA, Josh Dunbar (Ashley) of Radford, VA, Nathan Harrell of Pulaski, VA, Zac Harrell (Maria) of Wilmington, NC, Jamie Clark (James) of Shady Spring, WV, Amanda Minor of Beckley, WV, Johnny Blevins (Ally) of Princeton, WV, Michaela Steele of Radford, VA, and Bria Crawford of Narrows, VA; and seven great-grandchildren, Jerrick and Jayce Crowder, Weston and Waylon Dunbar, Titus and Paige Clark and Alilah Blevins. He is also survived by siblings, Jerry Blevins (Connie) of Fairdale, WV, Danny Blevins (Brenda) of Lindside, WV, Barbara Dunbar (Darrell) of Clear Creek, WV and a host of nieces, nephews, church friends and other family.
In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles “Mike” and Joe Blevins and one sister, Patsy Payne; and two very special brother-in-laws, who were more like brothers to him, Don Payne and Jackie Dunbar.
Services to celebrate the life of Jimmie Lee Blevins will be held 2:00PM Monday, February 14, 2022 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C Byrd Drive, Beckley, WV with Pastor Jim Hagy officiating. Jimmie will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.
Friends may gather with the family from 12:00PM until time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
