James worked as a coal miner for 27 years at Eccles and Maple Meadow Mining. He later retired as owner of Fast Cash Pawn Shop. James served in the US Army during Vietnam. In his spare time he enjoyed vacationing and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who worked very hard to provide and care for his family. He was well-liked and respected by those who knew him.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Roger Herron.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Wilson Herron; daughters, Deborah Covey and husband Bryant of Beckley, and Jaime Rhyan and husband Dustin of Kingsland, GA; sisters, Patricia Peña, Sharon Smith and husband Jimmy, Teresa Webb and husband Kevin; uncle, Buddy Herron and wife Ruth of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Mikayla Covey, Bryce Covey, Sarah Rhyan and Samuel Rhyan; close friends, Bill Elmore and Dwayne O’Dell; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral Service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 1pm with Pastor Wayne Nutter officiating.
Friends may gather with the family from 11am to 1pm.
In keeping with current health guidelines all guests are required to wear facial coverings.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society.
