Bernice Christine “Chris” Wimbish, 87, of Midway, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Bowers Hospice House.
Born January 15, 1927 in North Carolina to the late Britton and Mattie Hill.
She married Richard Cabe Wimbish, Jr in 1942 and moved to WV shortly after where she lived until her death.
Chris was a member of Sophia Freewill Baptist Church, she loved sewing, gardening, and crocheting, collecting teapots, and an avid collector items with frogs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cabe Wimbish, Jr.; a grandson, Larry Bowles, Jr., three brothers, Ervin Hill, Veston Hill and Charles Hill; and two sisters, Ruby Byrd and Geraldine Hill.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Richard Wimbish and wife, Marsha of Lawrenceville, GA, Gary Wimbish and wife, Vickie of MacArthur; daughters, Bonnie Wimbish of Pearland, TX, Patricia Akers of Cool Ridge, and Karen Bowles and husband, Larry of Beckley; sisters, Vivian Jones, Bobby Akins, Autry Schaut, Edna Fitzgerald, Paulette White, of Kinston, NC and Madeline Hill of Seattle, WA; brothers, Alton Hill of Kinston, NC, and Terry Ray Hill of Wilmington, NC; 7 grandchildren, Tina Eskins, Scott Wimbish, Stephen Wimbish, Kenton Wimbish, Charles Richard Wimbish, Brian Akers, and Robert Bowles; 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Services to celebrate the life of Bernice Christine “ Chris” Wimbish will be held 2:00PM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia with Pastor Rodney Allen officiating. Two great-granddaughters, Haley Akers and Brianna Eskins will be singing. Following the services Bernice will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Her grandsons, Scott Wimbish, Kenton Wimbish, Charles Wimbish, Noah Wimbish, Ronnie Eskins, Robert Bowles, and Brian Akers will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family from 6-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
