When she was 10, Lois set her sights on three goals: obtaining her driver’s license, becoming a registered nurse, and learning to fly. She achieved the first as most teens do, then became an RN in 1952.
That same year, she married Allan, a Marine from Boston whom she met at a dance. Although Lois was hoping to have four children, Al wanted eight. So, they compromised and had 13.
When her children were old enough, Lois set her sights on the final goal—flying—and before her 44th birthday was certified to pilot a Piper Cherokee.
Her fondest memories are of the time spent at their cabin in Wrightwood, CA where the family learned to ski and swim. Lois, who had lettered in sports, played a mean game of tennis.
Although Lois fretted that she had not spent enough time with her children when they were young, they all disagreed, grateful that she was able to provide love and devotion amidst the chaos of such a large family. Indeed, all believed they were her favorite.
In addition to her children, Lois is survived by 49 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren all of whom miss their “Nana”.
Lois leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, dedication to family, and dreams fulfilled.
Memorial services will be held on August 16, 2024, at 11:00AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Beaverton, OR.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lois McInnis' memory may be made to Catholic Charities or plant a memorial tree.
