David Leroy Magee, age 75, of Beaverton, Oregon passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He was born on February 27th, 1947 in Portland Oregon. His parents were Susan and Glenn Magee. David grew up on the family's wheat ranch in Mayville, Oregon. He had two older sisters, Glenna and Carol. As a child, David had a horse named Sunshine King. David attended Condon High School, graduating in 1965. He was a member of the school basketball team and model UN. As part of his experience in Model UN, he went on a trip to New York City, visiting the UN and the World's Fair. Also while in high school, David traveled to Portland to attend The Beatles sold-out show at the Memorial Coliseum.
David attended Oregon State University briefly before coming to his senses and transferring to the University of Oregon. In Eugene, David would make friendships he would cherish for the rest of his life, including Thom, Patty, Chuck, and Bob. David was a member of the ROTC and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Political Science. He continued to attend the university, working on his graduate degree prior to serving in the Air Force. David was stationed in Florida and ran the Officer's Club. This was a great experience for David, as he got to hire bands to perform at the club. David was a lifelong music buff. Over the years, David and his family attended a number of concerts, seeing Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers with special guest Stevie Nicks, Bruce Springsteen, The Moody Blues, Eric Burton & the Animals, James Taylor, Maroon 5, The Backstreet Boys, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Death Cab for Cutie, and many more.
After moving back to Oregon, David settled in Portland and embarked on a career as a loan officer in the mortgage business. This job was a good fit for David's personality, as it allowed him to meet lots of interesting people and take clients on a number of adventures. David was a season ticket holder for both the Portland Trail Blazers and University of Oregon Ducks football. Attending sports events with family and friends were some of David's favorite memories. As a former tennis player, David particularly enjoyed attending the Davis Cup tennis event at THPRD in Beaverton and Phil Knight's tennis exhibition event in Eugene.
In 1982, David married Debi at the Oakes Pioneer Church in Sellwood. They enjoyed many fun trips, visiting Florida often. Debi and David had two children, Shelby and Mack. As a family, David enjoyed going on road-trips, attending Blazers, Ducks, and minor league baseball games. One memorable trip was to Prineville, where David came in second in the state cribbage tournament.
After retiring, David became an active member in the Elsie Stuhr Center, the great senior center in Beaverton. David took a variety of exercise classes and worked out several times a week in the gym and weight room. In addition, David enjoyed playing cribbage at the center and meeting new people. David served on the center's advisory committee for a number of years and volunteered yearly at the annual Harvest Bazaar. As David's health declined due to his MS, the staff and patrons of the center helped him adapt and keep his spirits high.
David loved animals and had a number of pets over the years. This includes various farm animals as a child and a number of dogs, cats, and rabbits as an adult. Some of his favorite dogs include Blackie, Tugger, Max, and Luke. Most recently, David had five cats, Lennon, Jack White, Elinor, Dorian, and Walter. Lennon proved to be an excellent companion and great comfort to David in his last months.
David is survived my his wife of 40 years, Debi, and two children, Shelby and Mack.
