Yuva was born on March 13, 1925, in El Campo, Texas, to parents Hulbert F. Weitzel, Sr. and Clara Robertson Weitzel (both deceased). Her dear brother Lt. Col. Rick Weitzel (deceased) was her only sibling. She and Rick were great chums, and she nicknamed him "Bubba."
Yuva, who was an avid volleyball player during her high school years in the nearby Crescent Community, graduated as Salutatorian from Crescent High School in 1939 alongside Rick.
During World War II at Camp Hulen Military Base in Palacios while working in the Signal Detachment Corps, she met her soon-to-be husband of 63 years until his death, Ralph Cheek of Dallas, Texas. They had four children, Beverly Cheek Frazier (deceased), Ralph Truett Cheek, Jr., Mary Cheek Swearingen, and Martha Cheek McCray.
Yuva worked in the Statistical Division at the War Production Board during WWII in Dallas, Texas. Then in Ordnance Supply at Camp Swift in Bastrop, Texas and lastly at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri. She later was employed by Jefferson County Commissioners Court as a Deputy Clerk, and Secretary in the county judge's office for over 32 years, retiring after declining health.
Yuva was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian. She loved the Lord with all her heart, things in nature, was a voracious reader, could tell a cute joke, and known by her family to be a great cook, and a kind, sweet, good-spirited friend.
She was a longtime member of Calder Baptist Church, the Joy and the Seekers Sunday School Class, and Wollerman Missionary Circle, and worked in the Vacation Bible School Training Union when she was younger. Yuva loved the Lord with all her heart; she was/is an example of Love, Faith, & Devotion to her friends and family.
She is survived by her children: Mary & spouse Greg Swearingen, Martha & spouse Michael McCray, Truett & spouse Pat Cheek; Grandchildren: Phillip Swearingen & spouse Courtney, Justin Swearingen & spouse Amber, Amy Frazier, Abby Frazier Leavins & spouse Sha, Andrew Frazier & spouse Nicki, David Cheek & spouse Meredith, and John Cheek; Great Grandchildren: Beatrice & Matilda Swearingen, Logan & Heroe Swearingen, Mallory & Lane Cheek, Sean & Reagan Leavins; Sister-in-law: Nong Weitzel; Nephews: Travis Weitzel and his sons Rex and Hugo, Drew Weitzel; Niece Debra Weitzel;cousins and friends.
There will be a public viewing at Forest Lawn Funeral Home located at 4955 Pine St., Beaumont, TX 77703 on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
