Virgie Chiasson Boutte passed away peacefully at Mill Creek Rehabilitation Center in Silsbee, Tx on September 22, 2024, at the age of 97. She was born on October 11, 1926, (she shared her special day with both a grandchild and a great-grandchild) to Clofed Chiasson and Anais Guidry Chiasson, and was one of 9 children-3 of whom died as infants.
She was raised in Edgerly, Louisiana. As a young adult, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and loved Him with all her heart. One of her favorite Bible verses was Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for the good of those that love God, to them according to his purpose." She moved to Beaumont, Texas where she met her husband of 57 years, Donald "Blackie" Boutte. Together, they raised 3 children- two boys and their later- in- life, surprise daughter. Virgie was a loving mom, granny, and friend to many. She was a prayer warrior to anyone and everyone-whether she knew you or not.
She loved to cook for her family and was amazing at it. She also liked to jitterbug and waltz, sing old hymns with her nieces (Rhonda and Analee), squeeze fat baby legs, listen to gospel music, take trips to Branson and Eureka Springs, listen to her audio books, and always wanted to be "in the know". She loved to be the center of attention, and really LOVED all things Neil Diamond! If she didn't like something, she was quick to let you know.
Though she was completely blind for the last 42 years of her life, she never let that stop her from enjoying her life. She learned to "see" with her hands. She would often run her hands across the faces of all her grandchildren, great-grands and great-great grands. She wanted to feel how pointed or round your nose was, how short or tall you were, how skinny or chubby you were, how straight or curly your hair was; she wanted to know what color your eyes were and what your outfit looked like....and no matter what she "felt", she always said you were beautiful or handsome. In her mind, we were all perfect.
Virgie is preceded in death by her loving parents, all her siblings, and her beloved husband. She is survived by her sons, Paul Boutte (Vicky) and David Boutte (Karen), and her daughter Paula Leach (Michael); as well as grandchildren Paul Boutte, Jr. (Cheryl), Sandy Boutte, Christy Duran (Mark), Aaron Boutte (Heather), Charity Baumgarte (Fred), and Scott Leach (Lindsay). She also has a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A special thank you to Mill Creek Rehabilitation Center and her wonderful Hospice Care Team. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude's Children Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
