Ruby D. Rives, 102, a lifelong resident of Lumberton and Rose Hill Acres area, passed away on Tuesday January 27, 2015 at Village Creek Nursing Center in Lumberton. Mrs. Rives was born on August 9, 1912 in Beaumont, Texas to her parents Henry James Drake and Emily Louise Teal Drake who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband Ray M. Rives, Sr., son Ray M. Rives, Jr., daughter Betty Ruth Deen, four sisters, three brothers, and one granddaughter Margaret Coulter. Ruby served as City Secretary for Rose Hill Acres and later on became the first woman to serve on the Rose Hill Acres City Council. She was a writer for Lookout Magazine, had a column in the Silsbee Bee, and published a book of poetry. Mrs. Rives was a member of the Senior Citizens All Together Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was a homemaker, loved astronomy and actually taught classes for that. Surviving Ruby are her grandson Cliff Deen and wife Ann of McKinney, Texas, six great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday January 30, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday January 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
