Ronald received his Master of Educational Administration and pursued a lifelong calling to be a missionary. Ron received approval from the Assemblies of God organization to go to Dakar, Senegal, West Africa, where he was Principal of Dakar Academy. During that time, Cynthia was working as a vocational missionary in the Dominican Republic, also through the Assemblies of God organization. They both returned to the United States where they met at a school of missions in Springfield, Missouri. Once they met and went back to their ministries, they corresponded by mail. In 1977, they were married in Beaumont, Texas.
After six years in Dakar, Senegal, they returned to Beaumont, Texas with their three small children and became teachers at Cathedral Christian School, then later in BISD. They resided in Beaumont for 45 years.
Ron loved reading and working Sudoku and crossword puzzles. He was famous for his "dad jokes" and enjoyed the reactions from those who heard them.
He was preceded in death by his father Gerald McCartney and his mother Helen Feller.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cynthia McCartney; son Philip McCartney and wife Sheree; daughter Beverly Tortorice and husband Jude; son Jonathan McCartney; grandsons Aidan McCartney, Nathan Barrilleaux, Lukas le Roux, Jude and Leo Tortorice; and granddaughters Alida le Roux, and Emmalin McCartney. He is also survived by his three brothers, Gary McCartney, Douglas McCartney, and Richard McCartney.
A positive and patient man, Ron will be remembered as a man who loved and served the Lord with all of his heart.
The family will receive friends and guests for visitation on Monday, February 13, 2023 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Ronald's Life to follow immediately afterward. Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home located at 4955 Pine St., Beaumont, Texas 77703. He will then be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Lily Pool Garden.
