Patricia Ann Bunn

Patricia Ann Bunn, age 88, of Beaumont, Texas went to her eternal home on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Patricia was born on February 6, 1934 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was the youngest daughter of Jesse and Cora Smith, also of Chattanooga. Patricia married Douglas Nelson, Sr in 1957 and together had two children: Douglas James, Jr. and Rhonda Ann.

Patricia attended nursing school at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee where her life was marked by her passionate devotion to the art of nursing. Patricia moved to Beaumont, Texas and embarked on a 30-year career serving in various disciplines of nursing until her retirement. Shortly after moving to Beaumont, Patricia became very active in the community that she would call home for the next 64 years. In addition to her responsibilities as a nurse, she joined a local women's sorority chapter where she met many lifelong friends. Patricia was also an active member of the Texas Restaurant Association for a number of years.

Patricia had a magnetic and direct personality; you never had to guess what she was thinking, because she would tell you, good or bad. Patricia or Memaw as she was adoringly called by her beloved family, had a zest for life and always had a way of making each person she met feel special, whether it was a compliment on their attire or a kind word of encouragement, she brought happiness to their day. She enjoyed afternoons playing Skip-Bo or her favorite game Canasta, evenings at the bingo hall, camping, traveling, or any other activity that allowed her to be surrounded by the company of family and friends.

She was especially fond of the holidays and loved for her home to be the center of the festivities. Her eyes lit up when she saw her family walk through the door on Christmas Eve. She was meticulous in the placement of her large collection of Santa Claus dolls and could not wait for everyone to open gifts. Patricia lived life to the fullest and truly enjoyed each and every day. She will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew her. She would want us all to continue living by a Mother Teresa quote that she often paraphrased reminding her family that "Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not here yet, So just enjoy today and be happy."

Patricia is survived by her husband, Steven Bunn; her son Douglas James Nelson, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Beaumont, Texas; her daughter Rhonda Gustafson and son in law Chris Gustafson of Magnolia, Texas; her grand children Dustin Price and his wife Lindsey, April Nelson, Wesley Collier and his wife Vanessa, Ashley Nelson, Lee Ann Lewis and her husband Adam and Angela Bellard and her husband Roger. As well as, her nine great grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Cora Mae Dedmon Smith and her sister Odessa Louise "Boots" Jones.
