Earl Jones, 95, ended his Life’s Journey on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in The Woodlands, Texas. Earl was born near Kirbyville, in Jasper County, Texas, on June 13, 1917, to David Andrew Jones II and Iola Hawthorne Jones. He lived most of his adult life in Beaumont and worked in the shipyard before joining the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from First City National Bank of Beaumont in 1981, after 35 years of service. Earl belonged to Tolerance Lodge No. 1165 for over 50 years and was 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. At the age of 86, Earl wrote his auto biography, “My Life’s Journey,” which has been enjoyed by his family and friends.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother, Tim, Mack, George, John D., Hob and Virgil, and by his sisters, Vivian, Jessie Lee, Avril (“A.V.”), and Etta, as well as his wife, Dorothy Mildred Jones, and his son, Jerry Michael Jones. He is survived by one sister, Verba Lee Turner of Nederland, and by his daughter, Kaye Jones, as well as by several nieces and nephews and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Kelli Fischer of Alabama.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Visitation will commence at 12:30 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Earl’s family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials in his name be made to the First United Methodist church, P. O. Box 3247, Beaumont, Texas 77704.
