Larry A. (Gunny) Dickerson passed away surrounded by his family on November 27, 2011 at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana. Larry was born to Arthur and Marie Dickerson on November 1, 1930 in Litchfield, Ne. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jan; brother Michael (Deborah); daughters Deedee Wells (Don); Charlene Cochran; Patti Dickerson-Willard (Chris); Son Mike (Evelyn); Grand-children Desiree, Danielle, David, Brandon, Dustin and Alyssa and great- granddaughter Alorah. Larry joins in heaven his Mom and Dad, brothers Richard and David and Sisters LaVone and Mary Ann. Larry was a decorated Sgt. in the Marine Corps, serving with distinction in the Korean War. While a Marine Larry married Jan, and after living in Orange County they settled into the home he built in Angelus Oaks for 33 years. After working in the construction industry Larry entered law enforcement where he served for 30 years. Larry is legendary for his exploits as a narcotics officer, repelling from helicopters into marijuana fields into his late seventies. His awards and medals are too numerous to list. Larry was always first a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He most enjoyed the love of his life, Jan, family, fishing, hiking, singing, dancing, Nebraska football and his dogs. His legacy will live on in those blessed to have known him as Dad, Grandpa, Friend, Scoutmaster, Coach or Mentor. With Larry on our side we knew a love and friendship that that would never fail us. We must now rely on all that he taught us, and God, to get us through until we are reunited in Christ. A memorial service, tribute and celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont followed immediately by interment at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Larry’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or B.A.R.C., San Bernardino County. Please visit the online guestbook at www.weaver-mortuary.com.
