Jose was born on November 10, 1948, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, the son of Alejandro Meza and Magdalena Gonzalez. He married his beloved Ana Sylvia Amaya on October 23, 1968 in Indio, California. Their love story blossomed over the years, marked by deep devotion and shared adventures, as they raised a beautiful family together. Jose and Sylvia enjoyed 56 years of marriage, creating countless memories.
Jose and Sylvia raised their family in Beaumont, California, before relocating to Yuma, Arizona, in 2003. Throughout his life, Jose was dedicated to his work, serving as a Buildings and Bridges Maintenance Foreman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 2008. His commitment to his job mirrored his dedication to his community, as he proudly volunteered with the Beaumont Volunteer Fire Department, Station #66, from 1979 to 1993. During this time, he bravely responded to numerous emergencies, including forest fires, cardiac arrests, and traffic collisions. His efforts saved lives, including one memorable incident where he revived the heartbeat of an accident victim.
In his free time, Jose loved to travel and spent many summers creating cherished memories with his family. After retirement, he and Sylvia escaped the Yuma heat by exploring various campgrounds, and he enjoyed summers in Montana with their lifelong friends.
He played a pivotal role in initiating the Spanish Mass at San Gorgonio Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic minister, demonstrating his deep commitment to his faith. Later, he continued his ministry at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Yuma, Arizona, where his passion for serving the community and devotion to Christ remained evident. His dedication to both worship and service significantly impacted those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Ana Sylvia Meza; children Carmen Ordonez (Mario) Lydia Gonzalez, Ana Sylvia Heras (Manuel), Jose Andres Meza II (Kiley); grandchildren, Andrea Jimenez, Larissa Blancas, Angelica Gonzalez, Roxana Gonzalez, Cassandra Gonzalez, Miriam Heras, Manuel Heras, Mateo Heras, Moises Heras, Jose Meza III, Trinity Meza,
Julian Meza, and Noelle Meza: great-grandchildren, Oscar, Madalyn, Evie, Emery and Ezrah and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jose in death are his parents, Alejandro and Magdalena Meza, brother, Pedro Meza, and sisters Victoria Mares and Maria del Carmen Meza.
In celebration of Jose’s life, a mass will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 11 AM in Yuma, AZ at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. The viewing and rosary will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont, CA. Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Saint Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Beaumont. Interment will follow at Sunnyslope Cemetery in Beaumont, CA.
