Robert was a strongly opinionated man who always spoke his mind. Fiercely proud of his German heritage, he expressed this through his enjoyment of their beers, food, and smooth soccer style. Any time Robert was around, with his infectious laugh, you were bound to find cookies or chocolate nearby to satiate his voracious sweet tooth. He loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing, or tending to his many roses for which he truly had a gift. The biggest gift Robert ever gave was his passion and devotion to Boy Scouts & Sea Scouts, the time he spent with those kids not only helped them grow, but himself as well. He had an eclectic array of other hobbies such as experimenting with calligraphy, crafting things out of wood, and driving cars fast. It goes without saying that Robert liked to argue and had a temper that could flare up at the drop of a hat, but he had a soft side about him too most notably for cats of all kinds. Those who were close to Robert would speak of his sense of style, he always kept himself looking fresh and clean.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, David Carroll Funderburk; sisters, Kathy Ickes and Mary Ann Jackson; infant brother, William Lawson Funderburk and infant sister, Helen Marie Funderburk.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Hance; mother, Geraldine Funderburk; son, Matthew Carroll Funderburk and his nephews, Scott and John David Ickes, as well as numerous our friends and family.
