Richard Lee Henderson, 73, of Baytown, Texas passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. He was born on June 20, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas to John Frank Henderson and Dorothy Mae McKinney Henderson. Richard served with the United States Coast Guard, where after he was honorably discharged, he worked in the marine industry. He began working for The Port of Houston Authority in 1977 and retired from there in 2006 as Sr. Capt. in the Fire Department. He continued working part time in the maritime industry until now.
Richard was very passionate about his beliefs and loved the lord. He loved working on anything outdoors and you would never see him sitting idle unless it was a ball game. Richard enjoyed pranking, teasing, and telling jokes with all his grandchildren, he just loved them so much. His famous words when they would leave were “come back when you can’t stay so long” (meaning I’ll miss you until I see you again). He will be deeply missed by those who loved and knew him. Rick/Dad/Pawpaw, “come back when you can’t stay so long.”
Richard leaves behind his wife, Paula Driscoll Henderson of Baytown, his daughter Amy Henderson of Houston, his stepson Dustin Purvis and his fiancé Meredith and her children of League City, his mother-in-law Barbara Morgan of Baytown, his sister and brother-in-law Kimberly and Michael Barker of Plano, and his grandchildren Alec, Adam, Orien and Presley.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 1:00 pm, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521.
