Mary Ann Garcia, 55, of Baytown, went home to the Lord Monday April 3, 2006. She was born January 13, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She taught art at Carver Elementary for 13 years, where she was named Teacher of the Year for 2003-2004. She also was a member of the Texas Art Educators Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Cleotilde Escalante; stepfather, Ruben Rangel.
She is survived by her husband, Remigio Garcia; children, Remigio A. Garcia, Joaquin Garcia, Vannessa Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Anthony Garcia, all of Baytown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and Juan Trejo of Progresso, Mexico, Linda Ramos of Corpus Christi, Nora and Bob Yerush of Corpus Christi, Dolores and Roger Alvarado of Corpus Christi.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Luis Hernandez. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Edward Blanchard, Richard Garcia, Daniel Garcia, Reyes Torress, Bob Yerush, and Michael Garcia.
The family sends a special thanks to the Carver Elementary staff, Yolanda Salas, Maria Blanchard, and Louise Hodges for their continuous support, and also the Odyssey Hospice staff.
