Mark Wesley Davis died on December 2, 2018. He was born November 12, 1950 in Kokomo, Indiana and moved to Houston with his father and mother, D.J. and Mary, at age four. In 1957 the Davis family relocated to Baytown where D.J. and Mary pastored First Church of God.
Mark attended Travis, Bowie and Austin elementary schools. He played Little League baseball on the East league Cardinals. He hit a grand slam homerun. Mark was an All-star. He played running back and returned kicks for the Cedar Bayou Junior High football Bears.
Following Mark's senior year at Ross S. Sterling High school, the family returned to Kokomo. Mark enlisted in the Army National Guard and began a working career in machine trades. In 1990 Mark transitioned his skillset to the Baytown area petrochemical industry. A series of illnesses resulted in his disability retirement in 2008.
Mark was a Houston Rockets fan. He enjoyed early 20th century American history and novels of the American wild west. Of his many interests, most of all, Mark loved his only child, Amanda Pauline Davis, who will celebrate her 23rd birthday after this year’s Christmas.
Mark’s father, Rev. D.J. Davis, died in 1998, but his mother, Mary Elizabeth Davis , 89, now resides in Baytown. His youngest sibling, Stacy Strakowski, and her husband Steve live in Austin. Mark's brother, Tad, is a Baytownian. Nephews, Lucas and Andrew Strakowski, live in Cincinnati. Mark’s nieces, Faith Davis-Vasquez and Elena Fink, are local residents.
